Bio-Gigajoules S.L. is one of the world's leading producers of biomass energy from energy crops. Biomass crops involve a closed-loop process and they are grown specifically for their ability to generate clean, renewable energy. The biomass material from these crops is used as a replacement for fossil fuels in the electricity generation industry.
We have developed and extensively field-tested a unique strain of Biomass crop called 'Champion 88' which is ideally suited for this purpose. It is extremely fast growing and in conjunction with our advanced agronomy technologies, provides excellent biomass yields.
When burned in biomass power plants it can generate 25 times as much energy as the amount of fossil fuel used to produce it (25:1). In short, the crop has an extremely strong energy balance compared with the energy balance of corn ethanol, which is around 1:1, or sugarcane ethanol at 8:1. Champion 88 also meets all the exacting specifications of a biomass fuel for co-firing in power generating stations.
Champion 88 is consistent in quality and moisture content; virtually free of contaminants and burns cleanly and attractive calorific value.
Champion 88 is a sustainable, renewable biomass source that we harvest consistently throughout the year. It is typically supplied as pellets in bulk, but can also be ordered as bagged pellets. Shipments are made FOB from the Champion 88 processing facility in Las Palmas.
We are a member of a) LEAF and b) the Renewable Energy Association - and are working with these groups to establish the route and methods required for best practice and sustainability certification of its energy crop production from its plantations.

LEAF, or Linking Environment And Farming, is an integrated farming method which is used to validate the sustainability of the method of production and that of the crop itself. We will be working closely with LEAF to ensure that our plantations are established in line with best practice and will have LEAF oversee the overall sustainability certification and annual sustainability audits. LEAF is recognised by most major power producers as a sustainability certification resource.
The Renewable Energy Association (REA) represents the UK's renewable energy industry, covering all renewable power, heat and fuel.

The REA was established in 2001 to represent British renewable energy producers and promote the use of sustainable energy in the UK. The REA was called the Renewable Power Association until October 2005. REA membership is active across the whole spectrum of renewables: electric power, heat and biofuels.
The REA represents a wide variety of organisations, including generators, project developers, fuel and power suppliers, equipment producers and service providers. Members range in size from major multinationals to sole traders. REA membership topped 500 in early 2007, making them by far the largest renewable energy industry association in the UK.
Bio-Gigajoules S.L. is happy to provide letters of intent and audit trails to generators regarding contract volumes and 'Energy Crop' status to enable the issuance of 'comfort letters' by regulatory authorities such as OFGEM regarding the eligibility of the energy crop to receive renewable credits of the appropriate value.
